The junta has tasked the Government Lottery Office with bringing down jacked up lottery ticket prices.
Lottery tickets stamped with THB80 prices typically sell for THB100-110, or higher if they contain numbers considered lucky. Officials want to end this long-standing practice and ensure tickets are being sold at their official prices.
Authorities blame the middlemen who pick up the tickets and distribute them to other sellers, taking a profit by reselling them, said Lt. Gen. Anantaporn Karnjanarat, general-secretary of Office of the Army Comptroller.
Anantaporn added that fixing the problem will require criminalizing the behavior, as currrently there is no consequence for marking up and reselling lottery tickets, Kapook reported.
