Junta calls off ban of 12 satellite TV stations

Twelve satellite television channels will be allowed to broadcast after a three-month ban imposed by the junta.

The 12 channels, which were blacked out for their alleged political biases, can resume broadcasting under the restrictions set by the military government, Takorn Tantasith of the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission said today.

The new rules include changing the channel’s name, rescheduling all programs, and strictly following the junta’s 97th announcement – publicizing “correct” information without any distortions.

However the permission to get back on-air needs approval from the commision, which will meet to take up the issue today.

The 12 channels include Bluesky, DNN, UDD, Asia Update, P&P, MV5, 4-Channel, FMTV, ASTV, HotTV, One Rescue TV and Network for Students and People for Reform of Thailand, NNT and Sanook reported.
