Jilted husband robs bank to buy gold necklace

A jilted husband who robbed a Thanachart Bank branch in Pathum Thani on Thursday so he could buy a gold necklace for his wife was arrested on Saturday.

Thanawut Sampan, 27, reportedly confessed to the police that he robbed the bank with a fake handgun and a getaway motorcycle that he stole from a local motorcycle taxi driver. He stole more than THB330,000 in cash.

The suspect claimed that his wife left him, prior to the robbery, because he was poor and unemployed. Determined to win her back, Thanawut said he robbed the bank and used the money to buy her a gold necklace.

Police said he fled to Chanthaburi province after the heist and returned to Pathum Thani on Saturday to attend his grandmother’s funeral when he was caught, according to Khaosod.
