Jaywalking office jerkholes blamed for bad Asoke traffic

Of course, it’s the office people slowing traffic down as they stroll coffee-in-hand and just jaywalk all over the place.

So says Deputy metropolitan police chief Nipon Charoenpol, who addressed jaywalking as a traffic cause in Bangkok’s business area on Friday.

According to authorities, many pedestrians ‒ mostly office workers ‒ have been observed crossing the road in front of their office buildings with a devil-may-care attitude instead of using the crosswalk, especially in Asoke area, NationTV reported.

The reckless crossings slows down the already crowded roads as drivers have to constantly watch for jaywalkers, he added.

“To ease the traffic issues, the Metropolitan Police Bureau has ordered the police departments in the Asoke area to strictly enforce the road-crossing law, especially on Asoke Montri road,” Nipon said. “Officials will also repaint the crosswalks so they are more noticeable. Violators will be fined THB200 maximum. Warning signs have now been put up.”
