Yesterday Suvarnabhumi Airport officials arrested a Japanese man, Masaru Tomori, for attempting to depart Bangkok with 10 live baby otters in his suitcase.

It was unclear why he needed to take 10 baby otters or how he planned to keep them alive in his luggage. Tomori, 42, has been detained for illegally exporting a protected species without permission as well as avoiding the Custom procedures to declare the babies, reported the Nation.

The baby otters were found right before Tomori boarded his flight to Tokyo’s Narita Airport.

The Japanese Embassy has been notified and is sending a representative to meet with Tomori at the airport today.
