Thai Spiker Onuma Sittirak has signed a contract with Japanese women’s volleyball team JT Marvelous for a record eight-digit deal.
Although the total sum has not been disclosed beyond being somewhere in the tens-of-millions range, reports say it sets a new salary record in the history of Thai volleyball.
Volleyball news site Volleyball SMMOnline reported that Onuma will join JT Marvelous right after September’s 2014 Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea.
The Hyogo-based team got Onuma on board hoping to get its rank up in the V. Premier League, Japan’s top-level volleyball league for both men and women.
Onuma is known for her strong spike and serve. She led the national team to win the Asian Volleyball Championship twice and has earned many individual awards since joining the national team.
Onuma previously played with Nakhon Ratchasima VC and Igtisadchi Baku, a Azerbaijani club.
