Jakthip Chaijinda named national police chief

The Royal Thai Police Board has selected Pol. Gen. Jakthip Chaijinda as the 11th Police Commissioner-General of Thailand.

Jakthip will replace Pol. Gen. Somyot Poompanmuang, who is set to retire at the end of next month.

In the meeting between the Police Board members today, Jakthip was unanimously voted as the new Commissioner-General of the Royal Thai Police. The names of four other deputy police chiefs were also proposed but rejected during the meeting. Jakthip, the youngest of the group, is due to retire in 2020.

His duty will begin on Oct. 1 after the retirement of Pol. Gen. Somyot, state media reported.
