Jailed protest leader Arnon Nampa has contracted COVID-19 behind bars, according to the lawyer’s Facebook page

The 36-year-old attorney said he was being taken to the Medical Correctional Hospital in Bangkok’s Chatuchak district as of Thursday morning.

He is one of a number of pro-democracy movement leaders being held in pretrial detention on charges of insulting the king and sedition.

Since April, at least 475 cases have been found at prisons in Chiang Mai, Narathiwat and Bangkok.
