Love is in the air today, especially over Bangkok’s “Love Village,” where at least 700 couples registered their marriages this morning.

Valentine’s Day marked many happy joinings at the “Silom of Love” event at the United Center Building in Silom Road in the district of Bang Rak, aka Love Village.

Newlyweds Saksin Sitthiphan and Onanong Pewkham kicked off the event at 7:30am by walking down the aisle as water was sprinkled on them.

Bangkok permanent secretary Khajit Chatchavanich said at the event that although the love day is a Western tradition, it is known all over the world, and many Thai couples seize the auspicious opportunity to get married as good for starting a family.

Every year, the Bang Rak District Office draws many couples – Thai, foreign, and mixed – looking to register and obtain marriage certificates.

Every lovebird in attendance can participate in activities including a lottery held every hour for gold marriage certificates as well as prizes from sponsors.
