It’s done: Military to demolish Preah Vihear temple replica

The military will demolish a miniature version of the Preah Vihear temple over fears the replica could sour relations with Cambodia.

The 1:10 scale-model replica of the original Preah Vihear ancient temple was built by the military in cooperation with the private sector at Khao Mor E-Daeng cliff in Sisaket province, about 700 meters from the north of Cambodia’s Preah Vihear temple.

The replica cost THB5 million and took five months to build. It opened briefly for visitors before it was shut down.

Locals are outraged over the decision which they say will damage tourism and affect their earnings.

Chokechai Saikaeo, a local administration organization leader, said local people also wanted the temple replica to stay open because now they have no opportunity to visit the original temple due to the border dispute, reported Thai PBS.
