An elderly Italian man claimed that he passed out and woke up to find his THB200,000 (about US$6,400) in cash missing after he let two Thai women he’d never met before into his Pattaya condo because they ostensibly wanted to check out the property. Hmm.

Cosimo Tato, 64, filed a report with Pattaya police in the early hours of Saturday. He claimed he didn’t remember exactly what happened after he opened his door to two Thai women, who he said told him they had contacted his landlord about renting his room at The Base Condominium and come to look at it, according to Thairath.

Tato said that he let the women walk around the room and had coffee with them. At one point, he passed out and, 10-20 minutes later, he woke up to find his valuables missing, including EUR5,000 in cash (about THB200,000), another THB3,000 in cash, and a necklace worth EUR2,000 (about THB77,000)

When he woke up, he called up his Italian friend, and together they went to the police station.

Tato said he was not sure if he was drugged.

Police had doubts about the story, suspecting that the Italian may have taken the two women back in his condo but did not tell the truth, Nation TV reported. Can’t imagine how they could come up with that kind of idea.

Police said they will track down the perpetrators from CCTV. The investigation is ongoing.
