Telecommunications regulators will meet with representatives of Thailand’s five major service providers tomorrow to discuss charging for data by the second.
After AIS, DTAC and True announced they would charge for voice services on a per-second basis, the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission said it will discuss implementing the same approach to data, along with TOT and CAT Telecom.
Commission Secretary-General Thakorn Thantasit linked the proposed change to the pervasiveness of smartphones and data subscribers. He said the increase has been exponential, with 30 million users in the kingdom using data services an average of three to five hours per day, according to a state media report.
