In an unceremonious decision the abbot of Wat Sripracha in Ayutthaya locked the sermon hall doors following a disagreement with the building’s warden over the temple’s new Buddha image, turning away worshippers on Wednesday.
The temple’s warden has now been dismissed from his duties, but claims the dispute arose over differences regarding the construction of a building to house a new Buddha image. Several sources disagree with the abbot’s decision to close the temple doors especially during Buddhist Lent.
Buddhist worshippers baring merit for the monks waited outside in hopes of an explanation from the abbot, however he had fled the temple. Eventually the locals decided to eat the food they had brought for the monks, the Bangkok Post reported.
