Instagram Direct: New feature sends private selfies direct to special friends

Apparently Instagram got jealous of all the naughty time people were spending with the new kid on the block, SnapChat.

To compete, “Instagram Direct” is a new feature allowing users to send their nonpublic photos and videos to specific friends and groups directly. Also, if there’s any regret about sending that image, you can recall it to delete it remotely.

The trick is after taking a photo and applying what cool filters please you, two options will be presented: share with your followers (“Followers”) or specific people (“Direct”).

After sending, the experience is unchanged from the familiar Instagram. Users can find out who has seen their photo or video, see who has liked it and view the selected recipients’ comments.

Although it’s a small update, the new feature has some practical uses. Now those crazy party photos can be hidden from your jealous lover or a “private” photo only for your significant other can benefit from proper filtering.

And if you send it to the wrong significant other, you can always send the self-destruct code.
