Yesterday, Tanit Sorat, Secretry-General of the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI), issued statements to the effect that Wednesday’s unprecedented power outage in Southern Thailand will likely cost the food and rubber sectors nearly TBH10 billion.
According to Mr. Tanit, fisheries, frozen food and rubber were all immediately affected by the blackouts, since they rely on electricity to power their processing machinery and to keep goods from spoiling while in storage. Most freezing plants are found in Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Songkhla, Trang, Pattani and Satun.
The Bangkok Post reported that these areas were among those hit severely by the blackout.
