Incorruptible cop beheaded, dumped into Korat khlong

Never complaining, he performed his duty in silence. He was a cop’s cop, a professional guardian of justice, immune to pressure or bribery. Okay, sometimes he had some fun confusing the heck out of drunk drivers.

To our profound horror, the life of Ja Chei, or Sgt. Silent, came to an unworthy end yesterday: beheaded and dumped in a canal near a school in Nakorn Ratchasima province.

The local rescue team only discovered his body, which was still dressed in its fine uniform, while his head, with its forever-smiling face, was nowhere to be found.

His arm was also ripped off, so it falls to us to raise ours’ in respectful salute to Ja Chei, that most honorable policeman, at this tragic start to what should have been a festive holiday for all.

This Songkran, we are all Ja Chei.

So far, no evidence has been found leading to his killer, nor will an investigation actually be pursued.
