Incoming SRT chief vows to change perception of Airport Rail Link

The incoming chief of the SRT Electric Train Co has announced plans to counteract the Airport Rail Link’s negative image.

Phirakan Kaeowongwattana is poised to take the SRT’s helm next month, pending the approval of his appointment by company shareholders.

The Airport Rail Link service, which opened in 2010, is a 28-kilometer-long system that links the Phaya Thai BTS stop in central Bangkok to Suvarnabhumi airport. Intended to help passengers enjoy faster rides to and from the airport, the service has worked consistently to combat a negative public image.

According to the Bangkok Post, Phirakan had said that the Airport Rail Link needed to develop more services that meet people’s needs. He said that more trains are needed to meet peak demand.

SRT Electric Train Co chairman Chamroon Tangpaisarnkit said the company would meet this month to finalize Phirakan’s appointment.
