Illegal Chinese iPhones and parts worth 30 million baht seized in Pathumwan

Police nabbed a suspect and took possession of fake iPhones and phone accessories from China with a street value of THB30 million that were being kept in storage in Pathumwan, Metropolitan Police Chief Sanit Mahathavorn said in a press conference yesterday.

Phaisan Jan-ubon, the manager of the storage area, was arrested on charges after the illegal items were found in the facility.

The haul netted 2,824 illegally imported iPhones that had pirated parts and 76,807 accessories as well, reported Sanook.

Documentation showed that, when the items arrived from China, no tax was paid on the items and that the parts used in them were not authentic.

The storage facility is believed to be a hub for the storage and sale of fake phones that are often sold to both knowing and unwitting customers in the Pathumwan area.
