The meatballs are back! On August 2, the Bang Na IKEA store will once again sell their meatballs, however they will no longer feature scant amounts of horse-meat.
After coming under substantial scrutiny in April IKEA removed the item from their Thailand restaurant menu. The furniture conglomerate recently submitted their meatballs to independent laboratory testing by the international quality Assurance Company which confirms that the meat now contains only beef and pork.
To celebrate the return of the meatball, and assumingly create positive notions, IKEA will offer menu incentives on August 2. A free plate of 10 meatballs will be given to the first 500 restaurant customers. For everyone else, special pricing will run all day at “10-meathballs for 50 baht” standard pricing is THB90.
The company released the following statement, “IKEA is committed to serving and selling high quality food that is safe, healthy and produced with care for the environment and the people who produce it.”
And to hold true on their promises IKEA has introduced new quality controls including: reducing the number of meat suppliers to simplify the supply chain, DNA analysis on raw meat and final meat products, imposing stricter requirements for sourcing and processing for all meat products, and more regular and extensive audits on suppliers and sub-suppliers, reports ScandAsia.com.
