There is something seriously wrong if you haven’t been to Phi Phi Island. Living in Bangkok is great, but the city doesn’t have twinkling blue water, epic panoramic beaches, and delicious fruit smoothies – ok maybe Bangkok has good fruit smoothies, but they’re way better when you’re on an exotic island. Here’s what you need to know about Phi Phi Island before you head there this weekend (really, you have to go right away).
The Beach
Let’s be honest, you’re headed to Phi Phi Island for the beach. Maybe you’re literally there for the beach, as in Leonardo DiCaprio’s movie shot on a Thai island a short boat ride away from Phi Phi. Check that out with a day trip, or hang around Phi Phi Island proper to enjoy the sand, sun, and fun. A number of the local hotels offer access to daily pool parties if you’re looking to spice things up. As mentioned previously, the Phi Phi beach is an excellent spot to score fresh blended fruit smoothies that are both healthy and thirst-quenching on a hot island day. Other island activities include snorkeling excursions, hiking, rock climbing, and a fair bit of partying when the sun goes down.

The Accommodations
If you love Phi Phi so much you want to stay overnight, there are a handful of spots to choose from. The Holiday Inn is a safe bet, with nice packages for honeymooners. There’s a mini gym for fitness-focused beachgoers, and a hilltop sunset bar to reward yourself for hitting the gym on vacation. Phi Phi Island Village Beach Resort is another neat pick with straw roof bungalows, not to mention it’s nestled in a more secluded part of the island for a more intimate experience. Both hotel options are beachside, so you’re never too far from a refreshing ocean dip.

Getting There
This is the easy part, easier than deciding on how many hours you want to frolic in the sun or where to lunch at least. Nok Air has crazy good deals on flights from Bangkok to Phuket right now, so book one of those and then hop on a boat to make your way to Phi Phi. There are two ways of going about this. First off, you can go for the two hour ferry option which is very affordable but not necessarily glamorous. The ferries come and go a few times a day, making them convenient, especially if you’re a last minute planner. The second option is hiring a private speedboat to get to and from the mainland. This option is more expensive, but definitely more James Bond.
No matter how you get there, just make sure you do. Phi Phi is more than just a cool spot for your next Facebook profile photo. It’s an incredible natural oasis within reach from Bangkok. Do yourself a favor, book your Nok Air flight to Phuket now and thank us later.
