A second group of Thais, who had opted to be airlifted out of Egypt, arrived at Don Mueng Airport last night.
The first group had arrived earlier in the afternoon bringing the total evacuees to 614. Another 300 Thais are still in Egypt and will be contacted by the embassy to arrange tickets if they wish to return to Thailand. Authorities said they were not requiring all Thais in Egypt to return.
Tana-eem Ponglatae, 26, a muslim student from Bangkok met with his mom and sister, along with his new-born nephew who came to pick him up at the airport. He says he had been studying Arabic in Egypt for a year and that despite the protest he is willing to go back to the country to study political science.
Anuwat Wang, 22, said he was also studying Arabic and that some of his Thai friends in Egypt still haven’t made up their minds whether to go back to Thailand.
Ten air-conditioned buses were available to escort the newly-arrived Thais back to their hometowns, the Daily News reported
