While the nation obsessed over celeb couple Tono and Tangmo’s lost love and the latter’s attempted suicide, one reporter got her moment in spotlight during the TV broadcast of the press conference.
But all the attention wasn’t friendly.
Before Phakin “Tono” Kumwilaisuk delivered the heart-wrenching story of why his ex-fiancee Pattarathida “Tangmo” Patcharaveerapong attempted suicide Monday after their separation, this female reporter was spotted front and center wearing a dress with watermelon pattern.
You see, tangmo (the bereaved star’s nickname) means “watermelon” in Thai, so it seems as if this reporter was having a bit of a laugh.
A snapshot of her back facing the camera at the conference spread throughout the internet and everyone seemed to agree that it was in poor taste.
“Could anyone teach this girl the term ‘time and place’? She should not joke around with sensitive issues,” said one Twitter user.
This celeb drama has truly captured the nation’s attention – Thairath Online and One Channel were bombarded with thousands of people watching the broadcast from their TVs, laptops, and mobile phones.
And let’s be honest, didn’t everyone in your office throw away what they were working on and gather around someone’s screen for Tono and Tangmo as if it was Saturday night?
One crafty meme-maker even compared Tangmo and Tono’s story to the plot of the movie Gone Girl frame by frame.
