The tourist police division in Chiang Mai investigated a fancy house in Doi Saket after getting complaints about the home’s owner. The owner, Bungon Sho, whose husband is from Hong Kong, has been accused of running an illegal hotel for Chinese tourists, but Bungon claimed that the hordes of Chinese people partying in the yard and spitting in the street were all her husband’s extended family!
Yesterday’s investigation team was Pol. Lt. Col. Narongpol Pimolsiri of the Thai tourist division, Pol. Maj. Pisanu Thriamdee of the Thai police force, and Wachara Sripot, mayor of San Pu Loei. They visited the San Pu Loei home after neighbors complained and also posted pictures of the house on popular internet forum Pantip.
The person who posted on Pantip said that there were minivans coming in and out of the home all the time, carrying groups of 4-10 different Chinese tourists every week.
Other than accusing them of running an illegal hotel, neighbors complained about the noise that comes from the house, a problem which has been happening since April. They have claimed that there would be pool parties until 3am, reported Sanook.
They say that Bungon renovated her house to function as a small hotel, and that it has caused nothing but distress to the people living nearby. Even after neighbors have complained directly to her, nothing has changed.
Bungon denied all of these claims. Her lawyer, Boonchai Nitiburirat, says that the house is in no way a hotel, and that the people who were thought to be Chinese tourists are actually Bungon’s husband’s relatives from China. They are simply here for a visit and to see Chiang Mai.
However, they’ve already put their house on the market, offering it for THB10 million so that they can move elsewhere in order to avoid more problems with their neighbors, reported Thairath.
