A Chiang Mai woman faced a charge on Monday after police decided to take action against her constant calls to their emergency 191 number.

Lert Jaima, 60, was asked to pay just THB100 as a fine for her calls to the emergency line to chat to officers.

Lert was especially fond of officers that sounded handsome. She would call them as many as 40 times a day. Lt. Capt. Sawai Meesaeng, of the Chiang Mai Provincial Police, said, “We lost patience with her because she was using up a lot of the lines, and people in real danger could not get to us fast,” reported Khaosod English.

The officer had determined that Lert did not have mental health issues but was lonely.

While they would have been within their rights to enforce a month of jail time as well as a THB5,000 fine, they fined her only THB100 since she is a maid and does not have much money.

In return, the woman said that she would not call the hotline again.
