It’s fascinating how often foreign businessmen simply forget bunches of cash in cabs.
A Bangkok taxi driver received praise, and an reward, for his actions yesterday after he returned JPY800,000 (THB270,000) in cash and a MacBook to a Japanese businessman who forgot them in the backseat of his taxi.
Thanakrit Hengniran, from Nakhon Pathom, turned in a green backpack containing the money, a MacBook computer, clothing and other belongings to police. The items were reunited with the forgetful passenger yesterday.
Japanese businessman Keishi Kobayashi, 29, said that he left his backpack in the taxi on June 24. After realizing he lost his money, Kobayashi contacted the police but said he could not remember the license plate number of the taxi.
However, it turns out that Thanakrit had already taken the backpack to a sub-division of the tourist police on Ratchadamnoen Avenue, reported Bangkok Post.
The Japanese businessman, who had faith in the honesty of Thai citizens, mentioned that he was confident his belonging would be returned to him. He postponed his flight and waited.
Thanakrit was praised for his honesty, and for reaffirming the trust that Keishi had in Thai citizens, after returning the backpack with all of its contents intact.
In an act of gratitude, Keishi rewarded Thanakrit with THB5,000 and thanked him for his actions.
