Smokers will have to pay more for their cigarettes after the excise tax was increased today by three percent.
In an announcement in the government gazette today, the cigarette tax was increased from 87 to 90 percent, which will cause the cost of cigarettes in the country to rise by THB5 – THB10 per pack.
The government expects their cigarette tax revenue will increase from THB12 billion to THB15 billion due to the hike.
It also hopes the increase in price will reduce consumption of cigarettes in the country, Thairath reported.
