Hold on: Snow impossible in Thailand, says meteorologist

As the cold spell led to rumors on social networks that northern Thailand would soon be covered in snow, a meteorologist Sri Chaiyanon said it was not happening – because it’s impossible.

Sorry to break it to you.

As the cold weather became the hot topic among Thais (besides Look Thep dolls) in the past few days, rumors of snow emerged when some Pantip users noticed a snow forecast at Doi Inthanon by some online services.

But Sri said that for Thailand to snow, it would need more factors than just freezing temperatures, such as altitude clouds – which Thailand doesn’t have, reported Khaosod English.

As for the photos of Doi Inthanon covered in ice, which were passed around online this week, the head of Doi Inthanon National Park insisted they were old photos from 2013 when the mountain had just battled a hail storm – and so the white blanket that covered the road was not snow.
