With Khaosan Road positioning itself as Bangkok’s “cannabis hub,” the street cannot lack the very first dispensary to open when weed was decriminalized in Thailand.

Following its first location in Lat Phrao, Highland Cafe this month has opened a second location on Khaosan Road, adding dozens of weed vendors and a smoking area to the popular backpacker destination.

From Friday through Sunday, the shop will offer deals and discounts. The shop also sells craft beer on tap.

Highland was founded by Rattapon “Guide” Sanrak, who became a leader of the legalization movement.

Highland Cafe opened in the Lat Phrao area in 2019, when weed was still illegal, as a “cannabis-themed” cafe. It didn’t begin sales until June. 9 when Thailand officially decriminalized cannabis. Highland Cafe is recognized as the first dispensary to openly sell weed legally.

Many dispensary owners in Bangkok have credited Highland Cafe as the “model” that led them to open their own.

The second branch of Highland is located inside Plantopia, a weed complex that allows smoking on the premises. It’s open 4:20pm until half past midnight every day.
