High school boy won Miss Thailand World’s formal wear design contest

The winning fashion design for the formal wear to be worn by Miss Thailand World was announced yesterday. The magnificent design belongs to a high school senior student from Phatthalung province.

The beauty pageant contestant will wear his design in the global competition in the U.S. later this year.

The 17-year-old designer, Pawit “Bhumi” Prawat, was chosen from over one hundred submissions with his “The Movement of Thailand” dress which is meant to be feminine yet powerful.

He received a THB30,000 cash prize, and his design will be worn by the latest Miss Thailand,  Jinnita Buddee, in the upcoming Miss World pageant contest to be held in Washington D.C.

“I think by winning, I’ve proved to my parents that I am really into designing,” Pawit told Komchadluek.

“I’d like to study Decorative Arts and continue working with fabric. I’ll use the prize money to buy a sewing machine and pay for my tuition because my parents have been working so hard,” the young designer said.

One of the judges, Yutthakarn Chantachote, said the reason Pawit’s design won the votes because it featured Thai fabric and traditional details inspired by Khon performance and Thai prints.
