Whether topping off their ka prow or khao pad, Thai people’s egg consumption increased to 240 eggs per person last year following a campaign to increase egg consumption by the public and private sectors, according to officials.

A committee for the project to campaign for the consumption of 300 eggs has cooperated with egg manufacturers, traders, exporters and farmers to continue the campaign for egg consumption for the second year.

The campaign’s goal was to have all Thais consuming 300 eggs per year by 2018 — and they seem to be making strides toward reaching that goal. In 2015, Thais consumed an average of 220 eggs per person.

Last year, the campaign arranged activities to make Thais feel more confident about eating eggs and helped support Thai egg farmers.

The new egg report from Thai News Bureau said “eggs can be eaten daily,” according to the Institute of Nutrition, Mahidol University and the Department of Health. High-blood pressure patients and those with high cholesterol should only eat one egg per week or as recommended by doctors.

This year, the committee will campaign for egg research in Thailand and try to encourage Thais to give eggs as gifts during major festivals. The campaign will hopefully increase the national egg consumption to 300 eggs per year and prevent an oversupply of eggs in the market.

Hmmm, bouquet of dyed red eggs for Valentine’s Day perhaps?
