Hero burial for monk’s beloved pet python

The funeral for a monk’s heroic pet python that died protecting its babies from a fire was held in Lampang on Monday.

Mike, a 20-year-old female python, was found badly burned on July 17 with her body tightly wrapped around her four babies to protect them from a fire that had occured.
The 7-meter-long, 200kg snake – who was kept as a pet by Phra Mahawichai at Waluwanaram Temple –  survived for three weeks but finally succumbed to her injuries and died.

The beloved and valiant reptile was celebrated on Monday with a Buddhist funeral and cremation ceremony.

Phra Mahawichai reportedly bought Mike from a villager 16 years ago to prevent her from being killed and had kept her as a pet since then, Mthai reported.
