Heckler turns the whistle-blowing tables on Abhisit

We think it was Orwell who cautioned the future would consist of whistles blowing in human faces, forever.

Deciding that turn-around was fair play, a man who supports the Feb. 2 elections blew a whistle in protest at former prime minister and Democrat party chief Abhisit Vejjajiva, demanding “Respect my vote!” The whistle-blowing protests have mostly been associated with anti-government protesters seeking to derail next month’s elections.

The interruption happened Tuesday while Abhisit was speaking at the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre. At first those present assumed the whistle identified him as one of their own, until the man held a sign which read, in English, “Respect My Vote!”

“When you were the government, why didn′t you do it? Stop the discourse about anti-corruption,” the man said. “You have intimidated other people, so can they not intimidate you as well?”

Calling the man a “rival” of the Democrat Party, Abhisit said his interruption proved electoral reforms were necessary prior to any further elections his party is likely to again lose.

“I am not your rival, I am the people!” the heckler retorted, before being removed from the room by security. He was later identified as 34-year-old Bangkok businessman Ake Auttagorn, Khaosod reported.
