Severe flooding in the western Thai province of Prachuap Khiri Khan has triggered the emergency evacuation of nine patients in critical condition at Bang Saphan Hospital.

The emergency operations center (EOC) oversaw the evacuation last night as heavy rainfall, worsened by runoffs from the Tanaosri Mountain Range, caused a roughly 7.5-meter-high inundation around the hospital in Bang Saphan district.

Eight patients in the intensive care unit were moved to Prachuap Khiri Khan Hospital, while the one remaining patient was transferred to Hua Hin hospital, reported Khaosod.

New TV reports that this is the region’s worst flood in 30 years.

Piron Niltaya, deputy governor of Prachuap Khiri Khan, stated that a reported 3,000 locals were affected by the flooding, with some villagers believed still trapped in their homes.

All schools in the district have closed for the day, and staff from the Center for Disaster Prevention and Mitigation and Rescue Volunteer foundation are making rounds today aiding locals.
