HealthMin wants to end wild stem cell claims

Penis not working? Boobs too small or just getting old? Just step into one of Bangkok’s many “stem cell therapy” clinics and let them shoot you up with those wonderful little things, according to a proliferation of online advertisements.

Public health officials are drafting legislation to curtail the rampant marketing of nonsense claims by the many “stem cell therapy” clinics in Bangkok, where most such uses are illegal under existing law.

Under rules set by the Medical Council of Thailand, stem cells can only be used to treat blood diseases, and the use of animal stem cells is banned outright, according to Bangkok Post.

However only medical doctors are held to those rules, meaning that private clinics can pretty much do what they want without fear of prosecution.
