More than 23,000 have become ill with the flu in what health officials say is a significant increase over last year.

Public health permanent secretary Narong Sahamethapat cited 23,899 cases known by the Ministry of Health.

Most of those affected are between 7 to 34 in Lampang, Chiang Mai, Rayong, Uttradit and Phayao provinces.
