The heavy rainstorms expected to hit the capital has forced Thailand’s Public Health Ministry to warn the public not to drink rainwater at this time as it contains a high level of acidity.
Preecha Prempree, director of the Bureau of Occupational and Environmental Diseases, said those living in industrial areas are most at risk if they decide to drink rainwater.
A pH measurement under 5.6 is considered acid rain and could negatively affect people’s health.
Preecha cited data from the Pollution Control Department that the rain collected from Bangkok’s Phaya Thai area was measured at pH 5.86, and Bang Na area was recorded at pH 6.17.
At Kasetsart University in Bangkhen, rainfall tested at pH 4.63, reported MCOT.
