The Reproduction Health Development Committee, a sub-section of the Public Health Ministry, is meeting today to consider whether or not to make “morning after” pills available in Thailand.
The “morning after pill,” also known as Plan B, is a medication meant to help prevent unplanned pregnancies.
In defense of the pill, Public Health Minister Pradit Sinthawanarong, who chaired the committee, stated that adults must recognize the difficulty inherent to preventing youths from having sex, and legislate accordingly.
After debating the pros and cons of the pill, the Royal College of Physicians will propose legislation based on its findings. The Nation reports that the proposal will be proffered in 60 days’ time, with legislative changes to follow shortly thereafter.
