Haze cancels flights to north of Thailand

Northbound travelers should stay updated on travel information as haze conditions have made Chiang Mai International Airport unlandable at times.

Four flights were blocked from landing at the airport last night due to the intense haze. Two flights were forced to return to Bangkok, while the other two were southern flights from Koh Samui and Phuket which were rerouted to Chiang Rai, according to officials in Chiang Mai.

Northern provinces have been plagued by an increasing problem of smoke haze resulting from local farmers burning agricultural waste and wildfire occurrences. This has caused low visibility for air travel in the area.

Earlier this month five flights to Mae Hong Son province were canceled due to heavy haze, state media reported.
