Those feeling lonely and in need of companionship – or very hungry – have something to look forward to if they get vaccinated in one northern community: the chance to win their very own bovine buddy.
Officials in Chiang Mai’s Mae Cham district came up with a creative way to motivate residents to sit for the jab by entering them in a raffle to win a live calf.
District chief Boonlue Thammanurak said the campaign launched yesterday in hope of making residents feel “engaged” and “relaxed” during these trying times.
A new winner will be chosen every week through the end of the year, Boonlue said. That means four cow friends given away each month.
The campaign has gone over quite well, according to Boonlue. He said that on Thursday alone, 4,500 residents registered for vaccines.
According to Boonlue, Mae Cham has 60,000 residents. He aims to have 2,000 of them vaccinated per week.
