Faith in humanity: momentarily restored!
Several months ago, a Canadian woman stumbled upon a puppy all alone on a Thai beach, dragging his useless hind legs through the sand.
Megan Penman, on vacation here from her home in from Ottawa, Canada, made an impulsive decision that day without knowing the commitment she’d made to saving one struggling puppy’s life, but she stuck with her decision and today her perseverance shines through the eyes of a very happy dog.
“I did not really know what I was getting myself into at first, but the next thing I knew I was in the middle of a huge process that took months to finally pull off,” Penman said, according to Samui Times.
First Penman called several local dog shelters but discovered none could support a paralyzed puppy. A trip to the vet discovered his back was broken, and there was no hope for him to walk with his hind legs again.
Determined to heal the dog and find a home for him, Penman began raising money on GOFundMe.com and YouCaring.com for transportation, medical expenses and a custom wheelchair for the puppy, now called Leo. However, reaching their happy ending continued facing challenges.
“There were times when the whole process was really frustrating, and I was told time and again I would be best advised to put Leo down, but you can’t put value on life, I could not ignore this level of neglect, no animal deserves a life like that.”
Finally after receiving enough donations and care from vets, the puppy was placed on a flight to Canada to meet his adopted home in Sarnia, Ontario. According to Megan, little Leo is now set with a loving parent with some leftover donations that can be used for his needs in the future.
