Hand-Foot-Mouth disease no longer a problem

Hand-Foot-Mouth disease, not to be confused with the livestock infection Foot-and-Mouth disease, is being controlled in Bangkok. According to the Office of the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) this year will close out the continued efforts made by schools to snub the spread of the disease.

Far less pressing than current outbreaks of dengue fever, Deputy Bangkok Governor Pasudee Thamthai stated that the disease was found in 20 of 1,154 BMA schools. With help from the BMA a mobile unit has been created to examine potential areas of outbreak.

While it can be found in adults, the disease is common in young children, likely due to their desire to spread germs. You can prevent becoming infected by practicing proper hygiene, washing your hands often, avoiding close contact and sharing of utensils.

Signs of infection include skin rashes, painful blisters on feet, hands or mouth, and fever. If your child is sick, it’s best to leave them at home.
