Belt buckles that look like guns have become popular amongst discerning Thai gents but police recently arrested a man with one of these buckles that contained a working firearm.
Police are warning people to beware of these belt buckles that look like guns–because they could be.
In Phuket, a raid on a house last week revealed a handmade firearm molded to a belt buckle that could fire live .22-caliber bullets. The small, ingenious gun can hold only one bullet at a time and the barrel is only 2.5 inches long.
Police discovered the miniature gun while raiding a home in Srisoonthorn last Thursday, when officers arrested Bandit Chaiwansut, 38. He was also in possession of 2.54 grams of marijuana, a Smith & Wesson .38 handgun, six .38-caliber bullets, five .22-caliber bullets, 28 rounds of 9mm bullets, and five 12-gauge shotgun cartridges.
Yes, his name is Bandit.
He was arrested and charged with drug possession and possession of firearms and ammunition without a permit.
“Bandit made the belt buckle gun himself and it can used like a real gun. It can shoot without being removed from the buckle,” Capt. Kraisorn Boonprasop, of Thalang Police, said.
“We are afraid that there might be more guns like this, so we want to warn people, business operators and officers to keep an eye for for similar weapons. Bandit could have entered nightclubs with this ‘buckle gun’, and no one would have realized it,” Capt. Kraisorn added.
