Grandpa ran into 7-Eleven, literally: Car destroyed store due to alleged faulty accelerator

A car driven by an elderly man crashed through the window of a local 7-Eleven store east of Bangkok Tuesday night.

The two employees in the store, located in Soi Nakkila Laem Thong 14 of Saphan Sung district, were reported to be unharmed but the store was badly damaged in the crash.

According to the driver, Neramit Thongsalap, 80, the accelerator of his Honda Civic became stuck.

The car went up on the sidewalk before it ploughed through the side window of the 7-Eleven store directly into a fridge, reported Thairath.

Neramit told police that he parked his car in front of the convenience store to buy eye drops for his daughter, but when he came back, he realised the accelerator of his car was stuck when he tried to drive away.

It was reported that police have impounded the allegedly faulty car and are conducting an investigation to determine if Neramit’s claims are true.

It was also reported that the cost to repair the damage done to the store is still being appraised.

No details have been released about whether Neramit would be charged with a crime.
