Grandma dies watching weightlifter Sinphet win bronze in Rio Olympics

This morning, while Sinphet Kruaithong was lifting weights in the Olympic Games in Rio, his 82-year-old grandmother passed out while watching him on TV at her home in Surin province.

Unfortunately, Grandma Subin Khongthap collapsed from excitement before she even saw her grandson win the bronze medal, according to Bangkok Post.

Friends and family were gathered around the television to root Sinphet on from his home in the Chumphon Buri district of Surin.

Apparently, Subin collapsed as Sinphet came on the screen to compete in the 56kg division.

She was not conscious and taken to Chumphon Buri Hospital, where she was announced dead an hour later.

Sinphet’s mother, Chan Kruaithong, 48, told reporters that she was sad about the death of her mother but happy that her son won an honor for Thailand.
