A married couple in the southern province of Narathiwat became Thailand’s 3,032 and 3,033 cases today, health officials announced.
The pair contracted the virus from one of their parents who had been infected, COVID-19 task force spokesperson Taweeslip Wisanuyothin said, adding that no new deaths had been logged for a 10th day. At least 56 people have died since January.
On Sunday, when malls and many other venues reopened for the first time since March, more than 1.3 million checked in using a government tracking app at shopping malls, he said, making them the most-visited locations.
He said that 350,000 fewer did not bother to “check out” using the app.
“Maybe people are not used to using the app yet and the high rate of people entering malls is understandable because it’s the weekend, and a lot must be going on too,” he said.
Many venues began using the Thailand Wins app on Sunday, with some people complaining it was difficult to use or install onto their phones. The government was swatted away privacy concerns by saying it would not misuse the data.
