New subway and flood tunnels are making for a lot of boring going on under the capital.
More than three years after the last major flood crisis hit Bangkok, the city is constructing an eighth massive tunnel under the city to help keep it dry, with four more on the way.
Governor Sukhumbhand Paribatra showed off today the latest municipal project to flood-proof the flood-prone metropolis, located in the Bang Sue canal at Kamphaeng Phet Road.
Seven hundred meters of the five meter-wide flood tunnel have been dug 30 meters beneath the canal. The digging started at the beginning of the year and reaches another 18 meters daily.

Its construction will take nearly three years and cost about THB2.5 billion, according to Thai PBS.
Sukhumbhand said it will help drain areas often flooded such around Ratchada, Lat Phrao and Chatuchak by quickly moving water directly into the Chao Phraya.
