Government opens Sanam Luang, public buildings for public to stay overnight

Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) is designating the Sanam Luang area as open to the public to stay overnight as many mourners have traveled from outside Bangkok and have no accommodations.

The BMA’s City Law Enforcement Department Police Colonel Phichai Kriang Watthanasiri said that the BMA has opened the Sanam Luang area for mourners nationwide to sleep if they need a place. However, the general public using the area is strictly prohibited from cooking food on the grounds of Sanam Luang, showering or hanging their clothes there, reported Thai News Bureau.

Those from the outer provinces who wish to stay in Bangkok for a long mourning period for His Majesty the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej can also contact the BMA Administration Center.

The colonel went on to say that the Kilawet Building, Thailand-Japanese Stadium and Ban Ounjai can also serve as a comfortable accommodation for those who are planning a lengthy stay. There are 100 rooms in each place provided for both men and women. Visitors are reminded, however, that they need to register to book each room each day
