Government investigation into Koh Samet oil spill will depend on PTT report, DSI says

The Department of Special Investigation (DSI) said it is waiting for data from a PTT fact-finding committee before it decides if it will investigate the recent oil spill off the coast of Rayong.

After a meeting with 14 government agencies, DSI Chief Tharit Pengdit said the agency has begun gathering evidence related to the case. He elaborated that as the incident was caused by human error and that more investigation is underway.

The DSI said PTT’s fact-finding committee is yet to conclude on the cause of the spill and more time is required to file a final report. Their decision on whether to take up the case is dependent on the outcome of the report.

Currently, the agency is looking into the life span of the company’s refinery pipeline as well as its oil delivery methods, NNT reported.
