The Ministry of Interior will ask the operator of the BTS Skytrain system to hold off its next fare increase.
Under its concession, the Bangkok Mass Transit Co. Ltd. is contractually entitled to scheduled fare increases, but with the economy tanking, government officials said they’ll ask them to delay the next increase.
Government spokesman Maj. Gen. Sansern Kaewkamnerd said the request was being made minimize the economic impact on commuters. He recognized the company may go ahead with the increase, however, which he said would amount to about THB2, according to state media.
