The music video Chuek Wiset or “Magic Rope” by Labanoon received over 169 million views on YouTube
The Nepal earthquake topped the most searched international news reports in Thailand this year while the suicide attempt of a famous actress was the biggest story in local media, according to Google.
The annual report from Google “See the Year in Search 2015” provides some insight of what Thais care about this year, and it turns out the top ten most-searched keywords in Thai are either songs or TV series.
To mention a few, the song Chuek Wiset or “Magic Rope” from a Thai rock band Labanoon was the most searched keyword of 2015, followed by the TV series “Ugly Duckling,” the rom-com soap on GMM TV. “Thirteen Terrors,” the horror series about haunted schools by mega production house GTH, won third place.
While entertainment topped search results, Thais also care about some world issues. Following the Nepal earthquake, some of the top international news hits were about ISIS, the MERS virus, the Paris attacks, and the Charlie Hebdo attacks.
Locally, the Erawan shrine bombing report ranked fifth in the top searched Thai news, overshadowed by the top-ranked news story about suicide attempt of actress Tangmo Pataritda, with the runner-up story on the wedding of actress Chompoo Araya. News about the 2015 Southeast Asian Games came in third, the Rohingya mass graves discovery came in fourth place, while the dengue fever epidemic came in eighth place and the government’s proposed internet single gateway at number 10.
In the general question category, Thais wondered, “What kind of coffee beans does Starbucks use to make a latte?”, “Why is Somtam called Somtam?” and “What is the function of the liver?”
